Welcome=

Hello Di! Welcome to AboutUs.

Great work on Vibra-Train.com - you apparently know your way around wiki. I'm excited that you've chosen to explore the wonderful world of wiki here at AboutUs.org - the place where everyone may collaborate to build the commons and community through their constructive edits and participation. Welcome! Be sure to let us/me know if you have any questions along the way (you can leave a message on my talk page via the talk link by my name, join the AboutUs WebIRC here, or check the "currently online" section on the homepage for someone knowledgeable and send them a message on their talk page). I wonder if you might want to add a little information about yourself on your personal page? (Check out PersonalPages for guidance or click my name below as an example.) Please don't hesitate to let me know if you'd like some assistance in accomplishing your goals on AboutUs and if you fancy some help or new ideas I've found the help page to be a nice resource. Welcome to the AboutUs community - it's great to have you!

Have a most wonderful day!

Oh, you could have fooled me with your mad editing skills on Vibra-Train.com. Yeah, I actually "know" Lloyd Shaw from working on AboutUs.org. Have a good one - let me know if I can help you with anything.

Vibra-Train.com

I will explain what I did: I protected the e-mail address from spambots and harvesters. That's what the <email> tag does, and that's common practise here at AboutUs. Do you really want spambots to start harvesting that address and spamming it? I would really appreciate it if you'd look at my edit summaries as they usually explain exactly what I did. I don't want to get into an edit-war with you, but it's really best to obfuscate the e-mail address as I did, rather than let spambots and harvesters spam it. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. The last thing I want is to destroy anyone else's work. Thanks, Nathan (talk) / 01:07, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

It's fine to have e-mail addresses that are hidden in graphics (as we do with ProtectEmail). It's when they're not hidden that they can be harvested. That opinion varies from site-owner to site-owner, some prefer "contact us" webpages (that list no address) instead (such as myself). Nathan (talk) / 01:20, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
There's also an easy way to sign your comments on talk pages. The wiki stuff is pretty easy when you get used to it. Nathan (talk) / 01:39, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Non-breaking space

Your guess on my local timezone is pretty accurate. Here's what to add for a non-breaking space: &nbsp; I did it for you here. Nathan (talk) / 00:12, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Internal linking

Yes, I see all. ;) This might help a little. Nathan (talk) / 01:32, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Nice work on your PersonalPage!

Ah, Auckland - how nice. I love the [1] Flight of the Concords who are from NZ - do you happen to know of them? I love that you said you're the tortoise - I am too, or maybe a sloth :)

Let me know if I can help with anything.

KristinaWeis 11:00, 29 May 2007 (PDT)

Hi :-)

I am not sure the humor in EdgeCC.co.nz :-) Help!? MarkDilley

-) You Kiwi! :-) I added a category to your PersonalPage. Please revert if you want! ;-) Best, MarkDilley

TempTalkPage

The weather here is horrible and rainy :(

Good work, though you only have to mark {{TempTalkPage}} on an IP's talk page once (not every time you leave a message) and it goes at the beginning of the talk page. This marks the talk page as temporary (IP addresses do change) so the admins can delete it after a while. Nathan (talk) / 16:16, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Storyteller's Bazaar

Hello Di,

Have you paid a visit to TheStorytellersBazaar yet? If not, please do. It's jam packed with all sorts of writing activities. Read some of the contributions and hopefully they will inspire you to contribute too. The more you contribute the better the site will become. Come and have a look and enjoy. Tanwir Shah

Hi Di, I wanted to connect with you because I don't think we resolved the issue. Best, MarkDilley

Help with Big Decision ... AboutUsLogo!

Hi Again Di, the AboutUsLogo consensus process is continuing to progress. I've left you a comment at AboutUsLogo:Status/Di that I'd love to get your thoughts on. Regards, Brandon

No, it wasn't about what you added, most of the comments were about different sites and not AboutUs. --Simon | talk 19:40, 6 July 2007 (PDT)

Featured WikiPage and a few notes

Hi Di,

Just wanted to let you know we picked Vibra-Train.com as the Featured page for today. Thanks for all the great work on it. I made a few formatting changes to the page trying to unify the formatting earlier today. Take a look and if you don't like it, just change it back. I also wanted to note that in the "Featured Blurb" I did mention your username because I wanted to highlight your great contributions and I thought what you said about Vibra-Train.com made a great testimonial (in fact, you might think of adding it to that page as a "Testimonial" or "Community Review"). I just wanted to make sure you knew this.

Again, thanks for all the great work on AboutUs.

Ahora Tours

Hi Di- Thanks for the note. I can change it to ArohaTours if you think that works better. Let me now! Thanks, Isabel 08:27, 12 July 2007 (PDT)

Power Plate

I'm not certain I fully understand your question, but I went ahead and added Category:Power Plate to Vibra-Train.com, you should see the category as a red link at the bottom of Vibra and if you visit the category page you will see Vibra listed alphabetically below. I hope this is what you were looking for. How have you been? KristinaWeis 14:27, 12 July 2007 (PDT)

FixName

Hello Di, I just noticed your message to MarkDilley. As a logged-in user you can actually do this using the "move" tab at the top of the page. For directions on this see Help:How do I fix the capitalization of an article?. Yes, some functions are sysop only (but not many) - there's a great list of the things that you can do as a "regular" logged-in user vs. anonymous at Why create an account?. I'm not sure what "be sure to check for double or broken redirects" means exactly, but in my experience it is fairly easy to spot a redirect or a page that has been incorrectly "moved." KristinaWeis
  • Just to follow up on this, the conventional way of titling articles is to make the first letter a capital, and then to capitalize each new word in the domain, without capitalizing any characters following the first period: WellingtonNewZealand.co.nz, for example.

"Be sure to check for double or broken redirects" means to click the "what links here" link (the first one under "Useful links") on an article page. If one redirect leads to another, you need to change the first one so that it points to the correct article, not a redirect. --Eohippus 14:41, 15 July 2007 (PDT)

Oh, I'm sorry about your knee. I don't even try running, my lungs give out before the rest of my body has time to start complaining. I love hiking though. I'd almost forgotten that you were opposite seasons for a second (how embarassing, I'm a Geography major). Not to rub it in, but the weather is great here - of course it is dreary and rainy 9 months out of the year so I think we deserve a little sunshine ;) KristinaWeis

ArohaTours.co.nz

I fixed the discussion page on ArohaTours.co.nz. --Eohippus 18:59, 15 July 2007 (PDT)

ArohaTours.co.nz

Hi Di,

Thanks for the note. I believe that the ArohaTours.co.nz people specifically asked Isabel to change the name to the lowercase, but I'll ask her about it tomorrow (and then act accordingly if need be). Naturally, our preference here is the uppercase, but we also default to user requests if they make sense.

In the future, we hope to have a "name change" mechanism that isn't as brutal as the "Move" command. It leaves all sorts of weird trails and can mess up the "feature discussion" as you might have noticed.

Anyway, I'll find out the situation and let you know.

Tak

Followup on ArohaTours.co.nz

Di,

I talked to Isabel, she couldn't remember exactly why she changed the page name, so no worries. The ArohaTours.co.nz page is coming along nicely BTW. I think we'll want to feature this soon. Let me know if you're planning a bunch more work to the page and I'll hold off, but if you're at the "minor tweaks" stage then I'll probably get it in the queue for this week.

Tak

Di, the images (and the page) look great. I added a couple of {{Clear}} templates to the page at the end of each section that had a image. This ensures that the images will show up properly on big monitors. The images were just beginning to look off with my 23" monitor, so I threw them in. -- Plus, now I can tell you about it and teach you a new trick. That's how wiki works :) -- If you're building out other pages and aren't sure if the images are working on big monitors, just put in the template -- it won't hurt anything. -- Tak

MyVibraSlim.com

Check out what I did to Whole-body-vibration. I redirected it to the DomainPage it should have probably been on to begin with, in the "Additional Information" section. Does this seem to work for you? KristinaWeis

Haha yeah, it's amazing how many sites of this nature are out there and it is something interesting we've been addressing since we are a sort of wiki directory of web sites. If you're interested we've came to an AdultContentPolicy recently and our development team is working on implementing it. For now I'll add an AdultContent category tag to it and remove the thumbnail, but yeah. Good times. KristinaWeis
Indeed - Redirects can be real doozies sometimes. The talk and user pages aren't really gone they're just hidden and hard to find - the way I usually get it to work is if I link to User:Whatever, I will be redirected and it will say the title with a little note below saying redirected from User:Whatever, and by clicking this I can get to their user user page with the discussion tab. It's great to have you WelcomingPeople by the way - some fellow welcomers have left notes on that page and feel free to add your own. KristinaWeis 12:37, 20 July 2007 (PDT)

Hi..I was looking at some Recently edited pages and noticed this one. You've added categories but have you got the syntax wrong as they haven't listed in categories but as text. I see you've used [{ instead of [[. I was going to fix them but I don't want to mess up if what you did is deliberate ;-) --User:Di | talk 06:37, 20 July 2007 (PDT)
  • Not deliberate, just bad typing. Thanks for noticing. I fixed the problems you spotted. --Eohippus 06:40, 20 July 2007 (PDT)

Problems with AutomobilSport.com

http://www.aboutus.org/AutomobilSport.com was on http://www.aboutus.org/gstehr.de as I never put the AutomobilSport.com there I tried to remove! as first wrong written! and I never gave permission to that person to do in that way! A lot of problems with those people

how can I remove complete as also synthax is wrong! thanks for help

I tried to get it complete out here ! as there where all links wrong, as it was not made by our company! so take automobilSport.com out! Thanks

  • AboutUs staff are able to do things to the database that regular users (you and me, for example) can't do. I think you will have to ask an AboutUs employee to fix the problem with the pages that won't resolve. --Eohippus 19:10, 23 July 2007 (PDT)
  • Redirects are being fixed right now. If you do a move or redirect it will be several hours before it takes place. That is not usual, it is usually instant. Sorry about that! Best, MarkDilley
Di, I hope your shopping trip was warm and plentiful! :-) Hopefully we get the redirect and move stuff fixed soon. It is a bummer. Cheers, MarkDilley

Categories :-)

Hi Di! Hummm, categories. We use webpage metadata to create the categories. So either you son did it or it was created automatically on view-source:http://www.brad.net.nz/ his webpage. As for why his site is here :-) Any website that is searched for gets added by our little AboutUs:Bot. Looks like several months ago, someone searched for that domain. Let me know what you think about these things! Best, MarkDilley

Please remove any that you feel are weird or don't fit! :-) ~~ MarkDilley
Also, good questions about NamingPractices! :-) ~~ MarkDilley

Brad.net.nz

Hi Di. In making that edit, I was just following the convention (thumbnail, domain tools at the top) - though there are no strict rules about them. Didn't notice that the logo had been resized in the process. Glad to know that you have fixed it. Drop me a line if I can be of any help. Have a nice day. :-) Asad Butt

Hello

Hey would you be interested in touching base via voice real quick? I think we could figure out a couple of questions you have. If not, cool, otherwise check out Skype.com or GizmoProject.com. :-) ~~ MarkDilley

your question here: Herne-Bay.co.nz is a different website than HerneBay.co.nz or Herne Bay.co.nz - the actual hypen is part of the internet vocabulary of domain names. Is that what you were wondering?  :-) MarkDilley

Hello

I repopulated ArtByTheSea.co.nz and it looks like MarkDilley and Nathan responded to your message about CamelCase before I even saw it. Hope you're having a great weekend - I'm going rafting in the morning! KristinaWeis

Does this (NsHospice.co.nz) look right now? This page had a re-direct in it to the spelled-out version, which I have deleted. If you want to do the NZ thing it should work now. My sentences are getting short so I think that means it is time for bed (2:30 am here). Have a good one! Haha, and my rafting is mostly just a way to get tan and stay cool... hardly any rapids or "white water." KristinaWeis

Hi Di, The AboutUsLogo ConsensusPoll has surpassed all it's GoThresholds and we will be turning on the DoneTimer as soon as all participants have been notified. This means that all participants now have the opportunity to check AboutUsLogo one more time, to make sure we haven't overlooked something. Please feel free to change the document and/or change your status, if need be. Best, Obed Suhail

IELTS

Hello Di,

Thanks for the information on IELTS in New Zealand. Do you know whether the IELTS there is the same one that's used in Australia and the UK? The IELTS that I know about is owned by Cambridge University, British Council and IDP Education Australia. I also know that New Zealand requires all new immigration applicants to take the IELTS test. In Pakistan these applicants take this test at the British Council and the Australian Education Office. We don't have an embassy for New Zealand here in Pakistan. If there was an embassy would there be a different New Zealand IELTS for immigration hopefuls? Tanwir Shah

That's really odd...

When I read your message I thought we were talking about the same person. Last night I welcomed User:Dabao800 - which had the same content it appears as User:Happx.com, so that's something we will have to keep an eye out for. They're both new accounts and I see a lot of people create accounts just to get the user names out there, like we had User:AlabamaHomeLoan and every other possible state created. I think today's guy falls in the sort of DeleteTest to see what can be gotten away with on this wiki. KristinaWeis Warning: Default sort key "Di/Archive/Archive01" overrides earlier default sort key "Eyaluth/templatearchive".
