welcome

Welcome to AboutUs.org. Let me know if you have any questions about the site or wiki. I moved a couple of your pages to what appears to be a better namespace. If they are incorrect, you can move them with the tab at the top, or let me know. Best, MarkDilley

I am going to make a SuggestedEdit. Please feel free to revert by going to the edit in the history before my edit. Best, MarkDilley, leave messages here

Hello Mark, your page is great! Can you help with boxes? and/or templates? I am trying to put together Template:FeaturedSite. Best, MarkDilley, leave messages here

I know html, php, etc.. as I design websites, and some general wiki.. which is apparently differant on every wiki site depending on how it's setup, i've never actually played with the wikimedia program itself. I'm sure I can come up with templates that can be integrated for people to use, it'll just take a little time to learn the backend of all this.

I can be found easier on aol instant messenger udner the screenname kckellyville (the screenname makes it easier for the Kelly fans to find me in case of a problem.. and I got them coming form a few sites), or email at or or (or 20 other emails..haha) mark | talk 15:21, 16 September 2006 (PDT)

It would be nice to have some more padding on the left hand side of the infobox. Looks great. MarkDilley, leave messages here

Like this template does: http://www.wikiindex.org/WikiOhana between the [edit] and the template. Best, MarkDilley
I don't want to make it too wide, or on saller screen resolutions, it'll end up scrolling sideways, and really squash the content mark | talk 10:13, 17 September 2006 (PDT)
I agree, I just want there to be some space between the [edit] and the template. I think it looks better. Really only need to pad the left side of the template slightly. Best, MarkDilley

I don't know if you've noticed, but we now have an "AboutUs Badge" available to put on your websites. It'll link directly to each website's specific AboutUs page. It'd be lovely if you could put it on KCKellyville.com and any of the others you manage to help with cross-promotion. Details: Badge for website owners. Thanks. --TakKendrick 16:58, 5 October 2006 (PDT)

Nice Work :-)

Weblog now working

Alan, just so you know, the AboutUs Weblog is now up. It lists (among other things) all of the featured sites and the full text of the "featured review blurbs." In case you want to look at it or link to your "Featured blurb" the URL is: http://www.aboutusweblog.org/2006/09/05/featured-site-kckellyvillecom/

Visitors can also reach it by clicking on the green "Weblog" button on the Featured Site bar at the bottom of the featured article. --TakKendrick 14:55, 24 November 2006 (PST)

Curious

Hey, I am curious if you are aware of traffic being pushed your way, do you have a handle on that? Best, MarkDilley

I haven't had anyone mention seeing the site on aboutus as of yet, but I have seen the page come up in search results, so it has to be getting out there. It'll take time as aboutus.org starts ranking higher on search engines. That will be the big factor. Google seems to be catching it, Yahoo is another story in itself. MY Kelly site has been online for 3 years, and I've yet to be able to get it to rank properly on yahoo at all.

Apparently, somone has noticed the aboutus page though.. I traced the ip's of who keeps vandelizing it.. comes out of Japan. any word on site owners being able to lock/unlock their own pages yet? alan | talk 21:50, 9 December 2006 (PST)

Bunch 'o responses

Hi Alan, I see you working on catching spam, rockin! If in the summary you could use [[revert]] to denote in recent changes and in the page history what work you have done. We need to figure out a tag for people who are angry about spammers. AngryAtWebsite is the idea I have started. Maybe there is a process, 1) one accusation of spamming 2) two accusations of spamming 3) etc... x) Verified spammer... I am not sure, it is an issue, people spamming the alleged spammers.

High on the priority list is to have an owners section that will be lock, but not the whole page. We think that the whole community can start patrolling itself. We are just in the bootstrap phase and are expecting that as we develop as a website more community will help with more patrolling and catching bad edits.

Nice work on the stop template. I have added a couple categories to it, one internal and one external, to track use of them on IPs. Let me know what you think of that. Thanks for letting me know about the traffic push to your site. Best, MarkDilley

also what do you think about the direction I am trying to go with this? User talk:154.11.98.13

Alan, I would like to talk to you about joing the RecentChanges patrol. Basically it can you a few extra tools to help make it a little easier. Let me know if we can talk. Best, MarkDilley

Reading your note on my page. I am not sure why you are not getting notified, maybe it has to do with which account you are logged in with? I did notice when you ~~~~ it left an empty alan. Also is this what you are looking for {{PAGENAME}} example: Alan  ?? I got it from here. -- MarkDilley

for when you are here

I want to take some time to show you the tools for when you are here, I will boost you up to "sysop" at that point, because you are doing those things when here and I want to make it a little easier on you. Today isn't good for me, but tonight or the rest of the week I am available. MarkDilley

Hey Alan - been looking for you at the other place, chcek for me the next time you are here at LiveHelp. Best, MarkDilley

reviews

Hi Alan, they don't even need to sign in, just find out what pages they have left reviews on and we can see if we can track down the issue. Best, MarkDilley

Patrolling and more

Alan, your articles are great, you're helping us patrol for spam, and giving us some great input to boot -- thanks! You're help in all these areas is really appreciated. --User:Ray King | talk 23:18, 27 December 2006 (PST)

moved discussion on spam

Hey Alan, I moved the discussion at User talk:Phantazm. Best, MarkDilley

energy

Hi Alan,

I think you are right about focusing people in the right directions. It is going to be hard! But what I want to do is encourage people who have energy to focus it constructively. This Phazam person is trying to do the right thing, I think, so I want to figure out what is the right thing. It is somewhere in the middle of what we all are suggesting. Aside, what pages was the edit war happening? Best, MarkDilley

This made me giggle. Mark is the last person to know what it means to do the right thing.

OptOuts

Alan, First of all, you rock! Second, how are you identifying the OptOuts? - Ray.

Reply to your note on my page - It's good to know what types of articles you're idetifying, we should definitely create some bots or tools to make that sort of cleanup easier. Category cleanup has also been on our list for quite a while (i.e. making tools to help). We're beginning to create some "portals" on the site and in the process looking harder at categories. That will likely also instruct our development in that area.
Happy New Year! User:Ray King | talk 11:23, 1 January 2007 (PST)

welcoming

Hi Alan. I just noticed you welcomed by friend Julie Caldwell. I also noticed that you didn't sign your name. Maybe that was an oversight? I really think welcoming is a powerful feature when it's done by a person with a name. Hope to get to know you soon! peace, TedErnst 21:30, 3 January 2007 (PST)

great idea to do the sign automatically - I really think connecting with a person makes a big difference - they might feel more comfortable asking you questions than they would if they can't find what they want with just the links TedErnst 21:47, 3 January 2007 (PST)

Badge and MySpace

Alan,

Right, I've been worried that the badge has that effect and your pointing that out has reminded me to make that a priority. I'm guessing we either make it simpler (i.e. not call our server (but then we can't change the graphic)), or make it smarter so it knows to return a blank or alternate pic if out server is unavailable.

On MySpace, yes, we should make a MySpace friendly badge and in general we should support subdomains. Thanks! Great observations as always User:Ray King | talk 22:39, 3 January 2007 (PST)

Yeah, but I still want to take a closer look at the badge to make sure we don't create any sort of adverse effect for users of the badge. Your other points are good too of course User:Ray King | talk 23:03, 3 January 2007 (PST)

Alexa Private Label Toolbar

oo neat idea! We've often thought about making our own (with a toggle button for "actual site vs. wiki page"); this might be a nice shortcut or stepping stone. User:Ray King | talk 23:03, 3 January 2007 (PST)

Hey Alan, I've removed the template again. AboutUs while a comercial project is still in the nature of open source, the license will allows others to copy info from AboutUs.org for non-commerical purposes. If you are not okay, please remove that content from AboutUs. Thank you. --Simon | talk 22:14, 31 January 2007 (PST)

Got your message

I appreciate knowing that this is done out of necessity, not personal, thanks. Just want to know we are working on it and trying to figure it out. Talk soon. Best, MarkDilley

Hey Alan, just wanted to try and connect, didn't see that you stopped by... MarkDilley

I don't understand why my user page was changed so it ends mid-sentence.

This is very time-consuming to work on. Please delete the user page.

Thank you, Lou Messina
