Hello and welcome to AboutUs. Great that you found the correct template :-) [1] - Look forward to bumping into you more here hopefully! Best, MarkDilley

Hello! Wow, we are both from Washington and my name is Kristina Weis. Have a good night cuz, Kristina **talk** 21:50, 28 November 2007 (PST)

Why yes, there is. Check out Template:ParkingLot and if you notice any you can just add {{ParkingLot}} to the top of the page. And that's a great idea to check out what people are saying and know about a particular domain - I hope that AboutUs continues to become a better place to do just that. ParkingLot is really different from LinkFarm

ParkingLot is really different than a LinkFarm. Very very different. The only similarity is that both have no content.

I'm not very familiar with these terms, but I've heard there is quite a distinction. Would you like to create Template:LinkFarm or help make this distinction clear on the ParkingLot page which is very sparse right now? Best, Kristina **talk** 13:29, 1 December 2007 (PST)
I'll go ahead and create one. I was about to, but I didn't want to step on aboutus' toes.
Oh, no... no need to worry about that here! Every constructive addition/edit is wonderful and "BeABuilder" is even a catchphrase/value that kind of sums that up. Best, Kristina **talk** 20:44, 1 December 2007 (PST)

Hi! Great conversation! After a year of using ParkingLot and realizing the difference from LinkFarm (in similar group , I was thinking that Splogs might fit in this area) - I had a thought that a more constructive way to category tag these pages would be HoldingPage for real content. But that still might not identify the bad actors on the web... hmmmm. What do you have in mind? ~~ MarkDilley

I think LinkFarm is sufficient to identify the category. Splogs are a narrower subset. A couple of linkfarms that I labeled yesterday were not splogs, for instance. All splogs are linkfarms though. Parked domains are not really a part of this category, at least not ones parked by folks like Network Solutions. Though having seen the number of places labelled ParkingLot that aren't actually parked domains, it might be better logistically to leave that alone mostly and create HoldingPage or ParkedDomain for legitimately parked domains and leave ParkingLot as the place for link farms, even if the title is misnamed.
Basically, I'm thinking from the basic use case for all this is bloggers who see something in their comments and want to know whether to allow the link or not. After that there's a second use case for web site owners who see robots in their logs and want to see what the consensus is on the robots operators. There's other categories of bad actors related to that as well as the linkfarm though.
It also occurs to me that having the discussion on my talk page isn't the best place for it. Creating a page for it is easy, but I'm not sure with what categories that page should be labeled to make it visible to other interested folks. I'm still new to your org.
If you want you could join Mark and some other active people in the AboutUs WebIRC to chat about all this if that's easier. We're the same time zone so that should be pretty easy. Best, Kristina ..talk.. 19:37, 3 December 2007 (PST)
