History
The history of Southern Company starts from as early as 1920s, when Georgia Power, Alabama Power, Mississippi Power and Gulf Power integrated to form Southeastern Power & Light. Later they formed a new company, Southern Company, which was incorporated on November 9, 1945 in Delaware
Expansion
Soon after this, the company began expanding its horizons. It started research and developments in areas of fiber, wireless, nuclear power plants. Since 1996, Southern Communications Services started offering digital wireless communication assistance with help of optical fiber technology. Soon thereafter the company entered the market of retail gas marketing and has been growing since then.
Today, Southern Company supplies electric power service to many states. It has four chief electric utilities – Georgia power, Alabama Power, and Mississippi Power and Gulf Power.
