I am frustrated b/c the Macy's credit card service seems designed to prevent me from accessing my account and paying the bill promptly:.
- The phone system is automated and requires an account number to log in.
- When I log in using the VISA account number on my card, I am told I have a balance of $0, even though I know I bought a bed on the card last month.
- There is no option to press "0" or say "representative" to actually get a person on the line.
- I ended up calling the furniture department, and they explained that b/c I made the purchase in the store, it was billed to my "Macy's card" (which I didn't know I had) and not to the Macy's VISA. So I need to enter my Macy's card account #, which is not printed on my sales receipt, nor is it on any document in my possession, since we never use the Macy's VISA and have never received a bill.
- If I had been able to navigate the phone system, and chosen to pay via phone, Macy's was going to charge me an extra $10 processing fee for paying by phone.
I would like Macy's to change as follows:
- Teach the voice prompt to recognize the command "representative" or connect the customer to an agent if they press "0".
- Explain the system with two account numbers at the time the first charge to a "Macy's card" ("in-store") is made. Provide the Macy's card # at the time of this first charge (better yet, unify the system).
- Connect the "Macy's card" account # to the VISA account # so that when I login online I can see both and pay both easily.
- Nix the $10 fee for paying by phone.

- amesbr's reply : I sent an angry letter to Macy's after receiving a past due notice when I had not received the bill. I set up automatic payment using the number printed on my Macy's card, thinking I wouldn't have to worry about it, but like you said, they charged a completely different account that I didn't even know existed. They waived my late fee, but now my account is "marked," whatever that means. I sincerely hope it didn't affect my credit score. I have an Old Navy Visa that uses one account only--the one printed on the card. In any case, I won't be shopping at Macy's again. 16:25, 21 July 2008 (PDT)
