- Celeste and Susan at Northwest Community Midwives
- Th, Aug 7, 9 am
- Safety: Middle of the road, not extreme on either end
- Good candidate: BP, urine, growth, responsible showing up at appts, taking responsibility for nutrition and pregnancy
- Labor: Liberal protocol around water breaking if there are no signs of infection. Time becomes much less important -- monitor vital signs of mother and baby. If fetal HR is consistently high or low and the mother is well hydrated we might choose to go in. Hemorrhaging if we can't control it. Shoulder dystocia. Use a doppler, every 30 min during a contraction, and then every other contraction during pushing. Goes under water.
- Services to newborn: Provide screening -- set up at 36 weeks, about $52. Three forms of Vit K: injectable, oral pharmaceutical, oral plant based.
- Cost: $3500, with $500 discount if paid by 36 wks. $500 retainer fee as part of $3500, then $100 for prenatal care. Bloodwork would be paid for through Providence. Birth tub $115. Birth kit $35
- Celeste 503-651-2627. Celeste is gone 11/23 to 11/29. We don't know who would fill in.
- Silke and Carol at Two Rivers Midwifery
- M, Aug 11, 6 pm at our house
- 8/4/08 PC Silke
- 7 yrs together. Silke 8 yrs, Carol a few yrs more than that. Silke trained in El Paso, TX and rural Costa Rica so she knows some skills for what to do when there's no hospital available.
- Small practice -- provides in depth quality of care w/out burnout from call.
- Clinically hands off during birth. Highest ideal is to maintain the line between not intervening at all and being able to intervene gracefully and quickly if anything abnormal occurs.
- We offer support. We don't try to impose position changes or our ideas unless the mom wants that. We let the mom
- Silke -- doesn't support state regulation of midwives, so even though she has the CPM requirements she doesn't have a license. Carries all the same emergency equipment, does the same blood tests, doppler, birth care, 6-8 wks postpartum.
- Includes use of waterbirth in fee.
- $3000 plus $50 or so for birth supplies. Does not cover labs, etc.
- Beth and Marilyn at Creative Space
- Marilyn 30 yrs, Beth did apprenticeship with Marilyn and Rhonda. Beth has small kids, so she took a break to be w/ kids for awhile and worked on her own for a number of yrs. Rhonda retired.
- Now partnership x 3 yrs
- Apprentice Melissa is very experienced -- will be done in December.
- Almost never do vaginal exams during prenatal care and even labor. Our support is emotional and being present during labor. If woman says "I want to be by myself and you just to sneak in and listen to the heart rate" we happily do that. Some women want more.
- We do monitoring. Herbs, Chinese herb, homeopathics. Referrals to complementary practitioners during pregnancy. Try to fit the people we're working with.
- Women leave their birth feeling like "they did it," not that the midwife did it. Avoid the comparison of one woman to another. Name Creative Space reflects that.
- Today at 4 pm?

edit Blueberries
- PREPARE SOIL 2 wks before planting: peat moss, well-rotted manure, compost, aged sawdust, or leafmold; equal parts loam, sand, and organic matter (?)
- FERTILIZE: Often, sulfur, sulfate of ammonia, or another acidic material must be added to lower pH. Goal 4.6 to 4.8. Well-aged manure can be worked into the soil in the fall before planting.
- PLANT: Hole 2 x 2 ft. Plant bushes one to two inches deeper in the soil than they were in the nursery, six to eight feet apart, in rows spaced eight to ten feet apart. After plants have been set in the holes, fill the holes three-fourths full with soil mixture (see "soil preparation"), and then flood the hole. After the water has drained, fill in the holes with soil and tamp it down.
- MULCH the plants with clean straw, sawdust, or wood chips will help conserve moisture as well as aid in weed control. A three to four inch layer of the above materials should be suitable. Generally, grass is allowed to grow between the rows of bushes, as long as the grass can be mowed frequently.
- FERTILIZE AGAIN: About a month after setting out plants, apply one-half to one ounce of 10-10-10 (one to two ounces of 5-10-10 or equivalent) in a band around the base of the plant.

- Abies koreana aurea is conical but has yellow-green leaves and is only 2 feet -- too small.
- Abies koreana `Brevifolia': ABS 1070 - Zone: 6 - Picture 1 Picture 2
- I think this is the one I want: - a small, strongly thickening tree with a regular, conical habit. Specific, short, green, thin, gently dulled needles make it one of the most interesting varieties of this specie. Growth is slow 4-6" (10-15cm per year). It forms small, violet cones. An interesting variety, proper for every plant arrangement and every garden. It manages well in Polish climatic conditions.
- Abies koreana `Horstmann Silberlocke': ACS 8 x 4 feet (Dwarf 3-6 feet at 10 yrs), ABS 1220 - Zone: 5 - Picture
- Abies koreana `Nanaimo': ACS 3 to 6 feet; ABS 1250 - Zone: 5 - Picture: No
- Abies koreana `Silberreif': 8 x 4 feet, more silver than Silberlocke; ABS 1335 - Zone: 5 - Picture: No
- Abies koreana `Silver Show': 8 x 4 feet, very silver like Silberreif; ABS 1350 - Zone: 5 - Picture: Yes. This is the only currently available abies koreana per Stanley's online catalogue 7/6/08.
- Abies koreana `Stark's Dwarf': Not sure if it is conical or not. ABS 1365 - Zone: 5 - Picture: No

edit ShelleySchoepflinSanders's Comments on Macys.com
- ShelleySchoepflinSanders (frustrated) :
I am frustrated b/c the Macy's credit card service seems designed to prevent me from accessing my account and paying the bill promptly:.
- The phone system is automated and requires an account number to log in.
- When I log in using the VISA account number on my card, I am told I have a balance of $0, even though I know I bought a bed on the card last month.
- There is no option to press "0" or say "representative" to actually get a person on the line.
- I ended up calling the furniture department, and they explained that b/c I made the purchase in the store, it was billed to my "Macy's card" (which I didn't know I had) and not to the Macy's VISA. So I need to enter my Macy's card account #, which is not printed on my sales receipt, nor is it on any document in my possession, since we never use the Macy's VISA and have never received a bill.
- If I had been able to navigate the phone system, and chosen to pay via phone, Macy's was going to charge me an extra $10 processing fee for paying by phone.
I would like Macy's to change as follows:
- Teach the voice prompt to recognize the command "representative" or connect the customer to an agent if they press "0".
- Explain the system with two account numbers at the time the first charge to a "Macy's card" ("in-store") is made. Provide the Macy's card # at the time of this first charge (better yet, unify the system).
- Connect the "Macy's card" account # to the VISA account # so that when I login online I can see both and pay both easily.
- Nix the $10 fee for paying by phone.
Here's the address for Macy's Credit Card Service: MCCS Central, PO Box 8113, Mason OH 45040 20:53, 19 February 2008 (PST)
- amesbr's reply : I sent an angry letter to Macy's after receiving a past due notice when I had not received the bill. I set up automatic payment using the number printed on my Macy's card, thinking I wouldn't have to worry about it, but like you said, they charged a completely different account that I didn't even know existed. They waived my late fee, but now my account is "marked," whatever that means. I sincerely hope it didn't affect my credit score. I have an Old Navy Visa that uses one account only--the one printed on the card. In any case, I won't be shopping at Macy's again. 16:25, 21 July 2008 (PDT)

Mark Hopkins edit What about a free escrow service?Dear Brandon CS Sanders, as you are the chief architect of AboutUs, you and the friendly and constructive people here on the site might be interested in this idea, to strengthen the role of AboutUs as a global player. So I bought FreeEscrow.org, what could perfectly align with the ideas in the AboutUs.org field. Looking for active partners to CreateAndShareWealth. <-> FreeEscrow. --fridemar 15:21, 24 February 2008 (PST) edit January 2008
