The Last Rounds Project

Lastrounds-image.jpg

The aim of the Last Rounds Project is to promote safe and sensible drinking by encouraging forward planning of your time out in London. It does this by not only listing pub opening times, but also local transport links - last tube, tram, dlr and bus times. Including a handy interactive tube map, taxi numbers, and even locations of public conveniences (for when you're publicly inconvenienced).

About why the project began

I started to build the Last Rounds Project in late 2005, after later licences were granted to pubs and bars in the UK. With all the Speculation about how late licensing could affect the London drinking culture, I thought that it would be useful to design a site that would provide vital information for this new late London society.

Since we’re now living in this rapidly expanding late night culture, it makes sense that we should also expand our awareness and knowledge of the modes of transport available to us at these late hours. The Last Rounds Project acts as a guide that helps make going out in London safer by encouraging us to plan ahead. It does this by providing key information on local public transport and links, (where possible), to find out even more in greater detail.

So next time you think that you might be late because you're getting in that last round and staying out past last orders; check out lastrounds.co.uk and get home quick and safe. [Read more..]

The Seven Deadly Sins Pub Reviewing System

The Last Rounds Project has its very own unique reviewing system for pubs, based on the seven deadly sins...

Seven-Deadly-Sins.jpg

Pride (latin, superbia) How much love has been put into this venue? Is it well cared for and aesthetically pleasing, or is it unloved and a bit of a dive? Ratings: 5=loved 1=unloved

Gluttony (latin, gula) Is the food so good that you want to stuff your belly until it pops, or do you just want to stuff the food into the nearest plant pot? Ratings: 5=loved 1=unloved

Sloth (latin, acedia) Do you find yourself waiting for ages at the bar, or is service efficient even when it is busy? Ratings: 5=Fantastic Service 1=Bad Service

Greed (latin, avaritia) How expensive is the place? Is the cost relative to the area and/or quality of the venue, or is it ridiculously overpriced? Ratings: 5=Value for Money 1=Too Expensive

Lust (latin, luxuria) Did you fancy or find anyone attractive in the bar? (For vain reviewers note that this does not include yourself!) Ratings: 5=Hot Stuff 1=Slim Pickings

Wrath/Anger (latin, ira)Is the atmosphere safe and friendly, or do fights and bad attitudes seem commonplace here? Ratings: 5=Can you feel love the tonight 1=I predict a riot

Envy (latin, invidia)Is this venue the envy of the area? Is it full of the most punters and the right stuff, or do other local bars, sights or attractions overshadow it? Ratings: 5=Envied 1=Overshadowed

Featured Text -- The collaboration and sharing between users that's a strong component of the Web 2.0 movement is something we just love to champion at AboutUs. As WikiPages on other internet projects are edited and grown here, we present an interesting synergy: one Web 2.0 company with comments and information on others:

FeaturedGoboz.jpg

The latest Web 2.0 property on the scene (which went live today) is Goboz.com, a local search site with the ever-popular voting system (registration free) allowing users to share information on restaurants, bars, shopping, health and beauty, professional services and more. Currently, Goboz.com has information on Portland, Oregon, but they plan expand to Seattle and the San Francisco Bay Area by the end of the year with more locations planned for next year. Another local online search service to build a great AboutUs WikiPage is UrateLocal.com. This site features business reviews, currently focusing on the Los Angeles, New York City, Toronto and Kitchener areas. (View Comments)

And here's another local review site with a slightly different focus: LastRounds.co.uk. The Last Rounds Project provides a pub review of London with the kinds of information often left out of reviews: opening and closing times of the venue, addresses, maps, information on local bus, train and tram service, local taxi cab information, and even the locations and hours of public toilets.
