GEORGIA 2000: demographic, economic, legislative data and maps

Description

About Georgia 2000

The Georgia 2000 Information System currently features reports of demographic, socio-economic, manufacturing, labor and education data that are accessible through menu selections or interactive maps.

Because it is a Geographic Information System, it may also be used to locate a specific area, such as a senate district, or to select geographic features based on their relation to another geographic feature or based on a theoretical feature or area, such as a buffer. The Georgia 2000 Information System makes interagency and public data access and data sharing a more efficient process. It can also eliminate duplicate data processing efforts. In fact, data from various sources are processed and tabulated on-line, whereby users of the website don't have to be burdened with downloading files and dissecting file contents in costly software applications to get project-specific information or answers to specific questions. Internet access with a current Web browser is all a user needs to process the information they want (provided that information is present in the system, of course).

The Georgia 2000 Information System was initially developed for the Georgia Small Business Development Center Network as a tool to help clients locate their businesses and evaluate markets. The Georgia 2000 Information System is much less costly to develop, operate and maintain than other tools, which perform similar functions yet require costly hardware and a smorgasbord of software.
