- About Gus
- I am a political scientist/theorist by academic training who first got interested in studying politics during the tumultuous days of the ‘60s. Perhaps as befits an unrepentant child of that time, my path to my Ph.D. was hardly the normal one. I financed my research primarily as an artist in Berkeley, California. There I encountered people I would never have met had I remained safely within the traditional academic environment. And I am far the better off for it. For during the 70s and 80s Berkeley was a center of spiritual, social, and political innovation and exploration whose 60s roots had not been severed by the worship of money and power that has come to define what is now called the “American way of Life.”
