A New Creation
Today I became a member of the Santa Cruz Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). There was no ceremony, just a simple assent by the people present at the Meeting for Worship with Attendance to Business at which my application was acted on after a month's seasoning (to allow anyone with concerns to bring them to the Oversight Committee).
At the end of July my clearness committee will hold a welcoming potluck and party, and I'll get a certificate signed by as many members as are present (something few other Meetings do, I'm told).
This formal committment underscores what I'd already undertaken as an attender: living up to the standards of my new community as guided by the Inward Light. Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality.
