The research in the Business Media area is motivated by the basic question: ‘How will economic value be created in the Digital Economy?’. Taking a strategic, economic, and business perspective the research develops and applies concepts of an integrated media- and communications management in the context of Electronic Markets. The research contributes to the development of sustainable business models for the Digital Economy and focuses on value creation.

The main drivers of the research activities from the business perspective are emerging business models based on the deconstruction of traditional ones, the paradigm shift from production towards communications management, and the changing role of the user.

From a technological angle the developments in the ICT environment in general and in the field of mobile communication, mobile devices, and ‘ambient’ or ‘ubiquitous’ computing in special are driving the activities.
