GPO (General Post Office) was responsible for running both the Postal and Telephone Services of the UK in the 1950s. They fitted some of the most elegant telephones ever designed. In the 1950's Bakelite GPO telephones were regarded as a status symbol, an item of elegant luxury, rather than the simple tool that the telephone later became. These telephones represent the pinnacle of a golden age of telephone design. GPO telephones represent a bygone era where the telephone instrument was a thing of beauty and classic design.
