In the 1950's, Fred W. McCoy, a former train repair technician, began excavating with his father-in-law's company, Fred Gibson Excavating. After gaining valuable experience from his father-in-law, in 1957, Fred began working alone as Fred. W. McCoy Excavating. Established as a family business, the company originated from a small metal building located on the McCoy family farm in Delaware, Ohio. Fred bought the company's first machine in 1959 (pictured).
