Welding Units

Welding Units (UK) Limited has been providing connector solutions to a global customer base for over 40 years.
Our high quality products are designed and produced for a variety of diverse applications and are supported by a depth of expertise and engineering support that has evolved since the Company was acquired by the Robert Smith Group in 1979.
Welding Units work with clients across the globe to provide innovative, bespoke solutions that are efficient and cost effective but above all, guarantee integrity.

Taper Lok

Welding Units designs and manufactures a range of Taper Lok® pressure energised connectors under license.
The Taper Lok connectors utilise a male / female interface with a metal seal ring to create a unique sealing mechanism that can accept up to ±2° of angular misalignment, translating into a ±175mm swing on a 5m length of pipe.

Flanges

Weldig Units design and manufacture a number of flanges including Swivel Ring Flanges and Anchor Flanges.
Swivel Ring Flanges are widely used in subsea applications for their ability to assist diver friendly installation, Welding Units has developed an extensive range of proprietary designs based on various flange standards, typically ANSI, API and Taper Lok®.
Anchor Flanges are generally used to resist thrust loads caused by thermal expansion in land based pipelines, Anchor flanges are designed by Welding Units to consider such specific environmental factors.

API

Welding Units is licensed to manufacture and monogramme flanges to API 6A, PSL 4 and as such fulfils the exacting requirements of the API Q1 quality management system.
To complement our long standing expertise in the manufacture of API 6A product, we also design and manufacture flanges for subsea wellhead applications in accordance with API 17D.

FEA

When normal design verification by ASME VIII formula based calculations is not sufficient to provide the necessary insight into the behaviour of a particular component, then Finite Element Analysis (FEA) provides a more analytical option. Welding Units has been performing FEA work for over ten years using LUSAS software and more recently, ANSYS software interfaced with AutoCAD Inventor.
