Description

Kepware's initial goal was to develop a low cost alternative to HMI (Human Machine Interface) packages such as Wonderware and Intellution. This was Kepware's primary product goal until December 1996. We began the development of our OPC and DDE server product in early 1996. Initially this communications product was only a DDE server. We embarked on this direction at the request of Rockwell Software who was looking for third party providers of communications servers to augment the communication offerings for their own RSView product. Because of the driver development efforts with our own HMI package, we felt that we could utilize the work spent developing these communications drivers and produce an additional revenue stream while we continued to develop our own HMI package. While our goal initially may have been to augment the development of our own HMI product with OPC server sales, the resulting KEPServer product line has grown to receive market-wide acceptance as a best of breed product for OPC communications. As such we felt a change of focus was necessary to take advantage of the growing OPC market.

Kepware has now focused all of the company's resources on the development of our OPC server products. With this new focus, we are becoming well known in the industry as the best provider of OPC servers in terms of performance, reliability, and price. The focus on the OPC communications market has allowed us to insure that we can supply a high quality product while maintaining a fast time to market for new products.

We take the quality of our product very seriously, and won't release a product until we can perform our full test suite on the product. We have released our 2.0 OPC server technology. Many competitive products have already had their own 2.0 products on the market for some time. In many cases, however, we have had numerous customers use our servers after attempting to use the products of other OPC vendors simply because ours works without issue. As we add new technology to our product offering, our goal is to do so while maintaining our already high standards of quality.
