In striving to achieve our vision, our mission is, through the provision of a safe, secure and conducive environment for all stakeholders, to provide every student who wishes to acquire relevant, up-to-date knowledge of the subject area of international hotel and tourism management and to develop skills appropriate to their present and future needs. Our mission permeates our approach to teaching and learning in an environment of multi-culturalism and rapid change.

IMI enrols around 460 international students a year on courses leading to certificates, diplomas, higher diplomas, degrees and postgraduate qualifications including an MBA in hospitality management. The School’s Certificates, Diplomas, Higher Diplomas and Bachelor’s degrees are validated by the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), UK, giving students the opportunity to experience Swiss excellence and obtain a UK qualification. With 55 staff, the School’s main (residential) campus has an enviable location in Kastanienbaum, on the banks of Lake Luzern and some ten minutes from the city centre by bus.

About IMI University Centre

IMI is a small school – its small size means that it offers extensive personal and individualised support, focusing on the career and development of the whole student in order to prepare them for the challenges of leadership in the real world. There are around 230 Students studying at IMI per semester.

IMI is a student-centred school – students are treated as adult individuals in terms of their personal, professional and academic development. It avoids the “education factory” approach of most other Swiss hotel schools. The family-like atmosphere makes students quickly feel at home.

IMI is a friendly school – the emphasis is on creating a happy and creative atmosphere conducive to educational achievement and self-fulfilment. IMI is an international school – students are of many different nationalities (currently 50) and social backgrounds. IMI prides itself on its diversity.

IMI is an academic but inclusive school – 97% of IMI students leave with an academic qualification because of strong, personal support from faculty; no-one is left behind. IMI’s affiliation with Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) – all undergraduate courses leading up to the BA Degree with honours and the BA Degree with honours itself are validated by MMU.

IMI offers a dual degree – all students studying successfully passing the BA study requirements will obtain 2 degrees: one from IMI and one from Manchester Metropolitan University.

IMI’s quality assurance – IMI is committed to continual quality improvement and has the most impressive array of quality assurance procedures of any hotel school in Switzerland, In addition, the IMI – MMU relationship received the highest endorsement of the independent UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for Higher Education. IMI is ISO 9001:2000 and EDUQUA certified. IMI is accreditated by the British Accreditation Council (BAC). Finally yet importantly, IMI is a member of the SVP (Swiss Private School Association).

IMI’s location – IMI is located in Kastanienbaum, near Lucerne, at the heart of Switzerland, which is the Swiss centre of tourism. The campus is located in Kastanienbaum, in a quiet and prestigious part of Lucerne, 10 minutes from the city centre, which provides students with a variety of recreational activities.

Paid practical training (internship) opportunities after every course – our Internship Department will assist all students who wish to undertake a paid internship (in-training) in finding a suitable position. Career Services Department – The Career Services Department will help our Alumni to find a job after graduation and provide the students with tips and advice in order for them to develop further and keep their career in focus.

Care Factor – IMI is very much aware of the fact that for many of our students this is the very first time that they leave their home and their families; that they are coming to a different place with a different language and a new culture.
