The practice of fine tuning websites and web pages so they can be easily recognized and indexed by search engines. The goal of SEO is to help a website's page rank higher in search results so that more searches can find and visit the website.
Search engine optimization has become a profession as people have increasingly come to rely on the Web to gain notice and grow their businesses. Website operators and SEO professionals have to stay up-to-date with the latest trends in SEO as Google and other search engines change their algorithms constantly in order to provide fresh and quality information to their users.
The term SEO can also be used to refer to SEO professionals: "She's a great SEO."
