American Central Insurance is an independent insurance agency that was established in 1987 when Stan Travelstead acquired a small property and casualty agency and immediately began to add employee benefits to the complement of services. From the beginning, the mission was to provide clients with the best opportunity available for purchasing insurance while maintaining a delicate balance between cost and quality. It was extremely important to offer products that are in the best interest of the client and then provide excellent customer service.

From the beginning, the mission was to provide clients with the best opportunity available for purchasing insurance while maintaining a delicate balance between cost and quality. It was extremely important to offer products that are in the best interest of the client and then provide excellent customer service.

In 1999, American Central Insurance expanded the employee benefits arena by creating a third party administrative service for Section 125 administration. Over the next few years, with the interest in consumer driven health plans, HRA’s and HSA’s were added to the list of benefits that could be internally administered.

2006 brought us to our current location. In a continued effort to better service our clients, we built a new building on the west side of Springfield. This was a substantial project, and the facility is now equipped with multiple conference rooms and new technology. This enables us to better serve the public by educating them through seminars and lunch and learns.

Just in 2007, we expanded on our employee benefits offering by adding a client portal known as MyWave. It is an interactive tool that allows all of our clients around-the-clock access to the Insurance & HR Community forum, with access to benchmark surveys and valuable documents, such as legislative updates, compliance guidelines, links to industry resources, and the ability to contact us whenever the need arises.

Today, over 20 years later, American Central works with over 350 employers throughout Central Illinois. We have a well educated, experienced staff that enjoy what they do and are driven to be successful. We represent the needs of our clients and potential clients by utilizing our insurance marketplace expertise and valued contacts to search out the best products, develop our services, and negotiate the best price.
