There is an old Ute legend which states that long ago an Indian Chief placed a curse on the Yampa Valley: Once a person visits the valley, he or she will forever be enchanted and compelled to return. That certainly holds true for us.
We are not natives, but we came to visit and returned to make this our home. Selling our real estate company in Pennsylvania gave us the job transfer we always wanted. We now spend our free time raising grulla quarter horses, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and raising Labrador Retrievers. Be sure to ask Mike about archery hunting - he makes his own recurve bows as a hobby. It should be obvious that we love where we work and play!
Our typical day begins with discussing what we saw on our way to work. It may be a herd of elk crossing the road, a bald eagle on the Elk River, a cattle drive that stopped traffic, or maybe the first snow on the mountain. All are daily reminders of how beautiful this small corner of western Colorado is and how lucky we are to live here.
