What (summary)

A tool for welcoming new users efficiently. Currently, to welcome people, community guys have to visit the recent changes page, then search for the newly added people, go to their contributions page, add a customized message in the users talk page, then add the user in the list of newly added people. Welcoming tool will automate this process by giving a single page interface in which community would be able to do the whole same process by just clicking "NEXT ....NEXT" button and yet can do all of the described tasks.

Why this is important

Manual welcoming is not scalable. It is important for us to quickly spot new users and welcome/help them. We also want a no-frills interface which lets community members perform their job without jumping through a lot of hoops.

DoneDone

  • Show a list of unwelcomed users.
  • Select a user out of the unwelcomed list.
  • See the User Home page and his recent contributions.
  • List of welcoming messages that can be used for welcoming or writing a customized message based on the users edits.
  • The new user is added in the list of newly welcomed people.
  • Integration with user patrolling.

Ideas

  • A few different templates depending on the situation would be nice i.e. New user, New User and contributer, and so on.
  • A way to personalize each welcome with a signature from a member of the welcoming team with maybe a leave new msg link to the welcomer. I have send email link on my current signature as well--DannyG | talk 20:02, 13 September 2007 (PDT)
