The Tej Bandhu Group has its beginnings in 1923 when 'Daily Tej' newspaper was founded by Amar Shahid Swami Shradhananda and late Lala Deshbandhu Gupta. It was a popular Urdu newspaper during the freedom struggle and was produced by Lala Deshbandhu Gupta.
In 1930 Daily Tej was converted into a Limited company - The Daily Tej Limited, with the likes of Devdas Gandhi, Sir Sri Ram, Thakur Das Bhargava and the Nawab of Rampur on its board.
Daily Tej Ltd was in the forefront of the freedom struggle. In 1948, Daily Tej partnered with Late Shri Ram Nath Goenka to publish Indian News Chronicle, an English daily, from New Delhi, which was, on the sad demise of Lala Deshbandhu Gupta, was bought by Shri Ram Nath Goenka and became Indian Express.
