The first recorded chiropractic adjustment was performed onSeptember 18, 1895, by Dr. Daniel David Palmer. His patient wasHarvey Lillard who was a janitor working in the same building as Dr.Palmer in Davenport, IA. Mr. Lillard had complained of hearing problems for over 17 years after falling down a flight of stairs. Dr. Palmer examined his spine and discovered a lump on Mr. Lillard's back. He suspected that a vertebra might be out of place. Dr. Palmer then adjusted the vertebra.
