ACap Asset Management is a Fee-Only financial advisory firm specializing in advising medical professionals. Whether in private practice, in academia, or part of a medical group, doctors can benefit from ACap's financial expertise so that they can focus on their patients, their businesses, and their personal lives. Because ACap works primarily with medical professionals, we better understand the unique needs and circumstances of our clients, and provide highly personalized and professional service.
Our clients are highly skilled professionals with busy careers, many have little time to manage their finances, or are concerned about paying too much in taxes; but most importantly, our clients seek a trusted expert rather than a salesperson from a large bank or insurance company disguised as a financial advisor. To that end, ACap is an independent Fee-Only firm, does not work on commissions, nor sell any products. Our only source of income is through our clients. We carefully and frequently monitor our clients' investments to ensure investments are commensurate with each client's goals and risk tolerance. In addition, we are not wed to any investment banks, insurance companies, or mutual funds; as a result, we are free to offer our clients the best investments most suitable to their needs. Therefore, and most importantly, our advice is free from any conflicts of interest.

Who We Are
Ara Oghoorian, CFA is the founder and president of ACap Asset Management, Inc. Ara has over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to starting ACap, Ara worked for a wealth management firm in the Washington, DC area providing investment management, tax preparation/planning, financial planning, complex risk-management strategies, and financial advice to ultra high net worth individuals and institutional clients.
Ara worked overseas for the US Department of the Treasury as an advisor to the Ministry of Finance and Economy in the Republic of Armenia. He also conducted work in the Republic of Georgia and the Republic of Latvia. He spent nine years at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco auditing foreign and domestic banks and bank holding companies. He began his career at Wells Fargo Bank in Huntington Beach, CA.
Ara earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from San Francisco State University, is a Commissioned Bank Examiner through the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Ara holds the Series 65 license.
Investment Philosophy
At ACap, we believe in investing, not speculating. Our goal is not to speculate on the direction of the market, but to achieve a healthy rate of return that allows our clients to achieve their financial dreams without exposing them to unreasonable risk.
We believe in asset-class investing and that investors should have exposure to several broadly diversified asset classes based on their goals and risk-tolerance.
Extensive academic research has shown that over 80 percent of portfolio returns are attributable to asset allocation and that an appropriate allocation among several non-overlapping asset classes not only increases returns, but also reduces overall risk.
Based on a thorough understanding of the client's financial objectives, risk-tolerance and investment-time-horizon; we help build a diversified portfolio using low cost and tax efficient stock index mutual funds and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs).
In addition, we aim to maximize investment gains and minimize taxes through tax-loss-harvesting techniques. We attempt to keep investment expenses down, minimize expense ratios and transaction costs, and reduce portfolio turnover, all of which affect portfolio value.
