Zephyr Graphic - Historical Map Reproductions and Contemporary Thematic Maps

Description

Contemporary Thematic Maps: These maps were created utilizing Geographical Information Systems (GIS) data available from sources such as the Unites States Geological Survey (USGS) and State GIS sites. They generally utilize a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) base layer with overlays of areas and/or features. Many of the maps are centered around a particular geographical region or geological feature. They are produced with the idea that maps can be both informative and aesthetically pleasing. At the present time, most of the maps of this type that are available here are centered around the State of Texas. We do have plans to add other states and areas, such as national parks, as we are able to work on them. We would be interested to hear any comments or questions that you might have about what you see here.

Historical Maps: The historical or antique maps that we have available are reproductions of maps that are old enough to be in the public domain. They are generally scanned images of the original item, which is usually housed in an archival source such as the Library of Congress. Because of their age, these items, almost universally, have some degree of damage such as tears, folds, or stains. After obtaining these images they are digitally cleaned and reprocessed to make them look much like they did in their original condition. If there is a particular area or region that you are interested in, let us know and we will investigate the availability of the historical works from that area. We would also like to hear from anyone that has a comment or question about the items that are offered here.
