The name 'Free Internet' signifies the rejection of the restrictive corporation-consumer model for Internet services, in favor of the more flexible, peer-to-peer model prevalent in the BBS world. It also refers to freedom from commercial advertising. The Free Internet distinguishes itself from the NON by incorporating a decentralized domain registration model (the FreeNIC) and an SSL web of trust designed to eliminate spam.
