James Duncan Davidson is a photographer, author, and software developer living in Portland, Oregon. He is perhaps best known for his work on Apache Tomcat and Apache Ant, both open source software projects created during his tenure at Sun Microsystems. More recently, he has participated in the creation of 6 books, helped to create several websites with Ruby on Rails, and is pursuing a growing photographic business.
He is called both "James" and "Duncan" by his friends and, much to the annoyance of some, likes to be called by either. He has a slight preference for Duncan since it's not quite as widely used, but he's not one to quibble with people's preferences. Most of his family calls him "Jay" or "James". Only tele-marketers, however, call him "Mr. Davidson".
Duncan hates writing about himself in the third person, but bios work much better in third person. He worries that it makes him sound like a pompous ass, but doesn't suppose there's much way to avoid that.
