Description
BLACKSBURG, June 15, 2006 – The Virginia Tech Foundation will consider the annual budget for WVTF Public Radio at its meeting Tuesday, June 27 at the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center, Jefferson Board Room. The portion of the meeting dealing with WVTF will begin promptly at 1:45 p.m. and is open to the public because a portion of the WVTF budget comes from public funds. Only the WVTF portion of the meeting is open.
1973–WVWR (Virginia Western Radio) is created at Virginia Western Community College to serve as a laboratory for broadcast students and as a forum for on-air college courses. The 4,100 watt station broadcast a variety of shows, including All Things Considered from National Public Radio, classical, jazz and big band music.
1975–WVWR’s transmitter is moved from Fishburn Hall on the Virginia Western campus, to Poor Mountain and the power is increased to 100,000 watts.
