About the Williamsburg Area and Vacation Information
Visitors travel from all over the world to visit Colonial Williamsburg and its "Historic Area " to experience the vibrant history and tradition found nowhere else in the world. Williamsburg captures much of the presence and culture that is still practiced in the region to this day. Farming, Forestry, Wine Making, Leather work, Saddlery, Weaving, Printing, Gun- Smithing, Crafts, Culinary Artisans, Metalworking, Carpentry and Instrument Making. The list is lengthy. Some of these skills are demonstrated at the Williamsburg Festival too.
Williamsburg has more restaurants per capita than most cities. So there's always somewhere to catch a tasty bite to eat in a wide range of restaurants spanning from American, to Oriental. Walk in the world famous "Merchants Square" in Colonial Williamsburg and marvel how close to a Hollywood Film Set it resembles. It's just so dainty looking! Yet it's all very real with real money being exchanged in a wide array of tourist shops at a price so reasonable you'll be surprised!
Oh! And don't be too shocked if you are greeted by a 18th century maiden or Thomas Jefferson or even George Washington himself as you stroll up Duke of Gloucester Street to visit the Capitol building or look at the Governor's Palace. It's all there...exactly as it was way back in the days of wooden boilers! It's a step back in time, long before phones, electricity or laptops!
