Windham Hill

Description

Synonymous with the best of new age and pop instrumentals, Windham Hill's roster is home to current post-modern sounds bridging world music, trip-hop and dance.

The vision of Windham Hill’s founders was a label that crossed many instrumental genres encompassing folk, classical and jazz, a unique musical fusion that came to be known as new age. From an early roster featuring Will Ackerman, George Winston, Michael Hedges, Liz Story and the Winter Solstice concept came extraordinary sales culminating in a series of platinum titles from Winston and the Solstice collections. A later signing, romantic piano stylist Jim Brickman, brought the label hits like "Rocket To The Moon", "Valentine", "Change of Heart" and "Partners In Crime."

Twenty five years after its founding, RCA Victor Group celebrates the label’s silver anniversary with a series of commemorative recordings, catalog repackages and new releases in addition to live events and retail and radio promotions. Looking forward, Windham Hill reflects current tastes and broader musical horizons including world music, trance, ambient and updated new age sounds. Cape Verdean singer Cesaria Evora tops the list of world music stars joining the label. Genre-busting, Maui-based ethno-trance band Lost At Last and composer Paul Schwartz of "Aria" fame leads the label into new musical territory that marries spiritual sensibilities with sophisticated global beats. Phil Coulter's instrumentals merge Celtic emotion with ethereal tranquility.
