The mission of the National Westmoreland Glass Collectors Club is to promote the appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship of Westmoreland glass and to continue the preservation of this important part of American history.

History of the Club

NWGCC_News.gif
In 1889 a group of men founded a company not knowing whether it would survive or be just another investment gone sour. Today we know that company, which produced it's wonderful glass for nearly 100 years, as Westmoreland Glass Company of Grapeville, Pennsylvania. Just imagine how proud those men would feel if they were with us now. Those men didn't just start a company. They touched all of our lives by giving us the beautiful handmade glassware we all collect and cherish.

On October 7, 1969 a group of Westmoreland Glass collectors gathered and founded what is now the National Westmoreland Glass Collectors Club. The main goal of the NWGCC is to enrich and preserve the history and glass of that company through a bi-monthly newsletter and meeting where members can share information. By expanding our knowledge and educating all those who are interested we will be able to keep Westmoreland Glass alive through our collections and in our hearts. We invite you to join us in continuing where the founders of that company left off.

Membership

Meetings

The National Westmoreland Glass Collectors Club meetings are held at the Pitzer's Townhouse Restaurant, 101 South 5th Street, Jeannette PA, at 7:00 PM on the Second Tuesday of each month. Join us at 6 PM and enjoy a meal and/or dessert, along with good conversation. Meetings are followed by a show-and-tell period, in which we seek to become more informed about this remarkable glassware. (NOTE: Club meetings are no longer held at the Colonial Grille, 333 Main Street, in Irwin, Pennsylvania, at 7:00 p.m. on the third Monday of each month.)

Conventions

There is an annual two day convention that is held at the Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood, Pennsylvania during the month of June.

Membership

The annual Club membership fee entitles you to a full year of the bi-monthly newsletter, "The Town Crier" and full club privileges. These include free advertising of "for sale" and "want - to buy" items. For small additional amount the entire family in your household can also enjoy full club benefits. If you just have a question, please email us.

Featured Text -- Ah, collaboration is a good thing. In the wiki world, last weekend AboutUs was present at an international gathering of wiki enthusiasts in Montreal at what is called RoCoCoCamp (read the event recap to see some of the cool ideas and outcomes). Well, far be it for us to say that wiki is the only thing worth organizing and joining activities for. No matter what your interest there's a club or organization for your interests. The National Westmoreland Glass Collectors Club is a perfect example. This organization, represented online at WestmorelandGlassClub.org, celebrates the artistry the now-defunct Westmoreland Glass Company produced from their Pennsylvannia-based factory for nearly a hundred years. Whether it is various types of containers, dinner and tableware, animals, novelty pieces, decorative lamps and vases, carnival glass, and more, the club's website shows galleries of Westmoreland Glass' works. More than just an online phenomenon however, the 45+ year-old National Westmoreland Glass Collectors Club has monthly meetings in Pennsylvannia as well as an annual two-day convention (happening this year on June 15-16 in Youngwood, PA).
