Walnut Grove is a Christian school which utilizes as it's instruction method the classical trivium - Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric. We begin with early grammar (Kindergarten through 2nd or 3rd grade) using memorization, chants, scripture, and hands-on activities to equip students with a foundation of facts upon which to build their education. During the later grammar (Grades 3 through 6) we expand on this foundation with more facts from Medieval, Greek, & Roman history, science, math, Latin, more scripture, and more hands-on activities. In the next stage - Logic (Grades 7 through 9) students are encouraged to make associations, ask questions, think critically as they explore science, algebra, Bible history, formal logic, and Latin. In the Rhetoric stage students add the dimension of writing and speaking well in order to interestingly present ideas, their ideas, to an audience perhaps for the purpose of persuasion. All this makes for a well rounded student, equipped with a worldview that is distinctly Christian, and prepared for a lifetime of learning.
