The Virtual Lecture Hall (VLH) began providing online CME programs in May 1998 and online CE programs in April 2005. So far, physicians and other health professionals have earned 80,672 hours of CME/CE credit via The VLH.

The VLH is owned by Medical Directions, Inc., an education publishing and research company (contact information). The VLH is supported primarily by fees from individual users and organizations that purchase group memberships. Some course development is supported by grants from federal agencies or health care organizations, and these sources of support are always identified on the course information page. The VLH is committed to improving the state of online continuing medical education (CME) and online continuing education (CE) programs for health professionals by:
