That in Test match against England in Auckland, New Zealand in 1975, Ewen Chatfield, a fast medium bowler for New Zealand, was batting when he deflected a bouncer from Peter Lever into his left temple and collapsed, unconscious with a hairline fracture of the skull. His heart stopped beating for several seconds and only immediate heart massage and mouth to mouth resuscitation by Bernard Thomas, the England physiotherapist, saved his life. Chatfield went on playing cricket and retired in 1990, having played in 43 Test matches, making 180 runs ( 8.57 ) and taking 123 wickets ( 32.17 ) and making 51 catches
