- I found out about Vieques in a New York loft talking to a friend. His words about the island where passionate, full of love, enthusiasm, magic. It was right after September 11, the echo of the twin towers disaster was still in the air, and we all needed a peaceful place to escape to or a fairy tale. I did look online but at the time there wasn't much about the island, and whatever was online was definitely not a happy picture. I left Vieques and placed my friend's fairy tale in a drawer and went to Bermuda.
