As a young child, I did not play with dolls much. The readily available ones were always babies or little kids. Cute as those dolls are, they never did fire my imagination as fashion dolls do.
I was fortunate enough to receive a very basic Barbie Doll when I was about ten years old. As none of the doll clothes were available in Bulgaria, I had no choice but to make them myself.
My mother wanted to help but her schedule was way too hectic to accommodate a whole fashion doll wardrobe. When the school year ended, she let me use her old mechanical Singer sewing machine. I ended up asking questions in the evenings about the construction of a particular garment.
