- Accu-Measure is located in Lenexa, KS (a suburb of Kansas City) and was incorporated in 1997. The company’s founder, Monte Mitchell, started the business while caring for his 2 year old son as a stay-at-home dad and doing home improvement projects for his wife. During one of the “honey-do” jobs he got frustrated with the inaccuracy of taking “inside” measurements with a tape measure. His solution to the problem was to invent a new measuring device that simply telescoped between 2 points for quick and easy to read measurements. With his wife’s help, a prototype was made of cardboard and then of plastic.
