Before making an appointment and paying any money in advance, choose your skydiving school carefully and know its exact location. We suggest that you search through those listed in USPA’s Group Member listings here. Most skydiving schools prefer that you make a reservation directly with them and prepayment or deposits are customary.
Beware of online marketers that claim to have skydiving “networks” and reduced prices. USPA has received numerous complaints about questionable trade practices by on-line skydiving referral services. If the skydiving school cannot tell you their location without first asking your location, then you are not dealing directly with the school but a referral service. This may result in your traveling much farther and paying much more than you would by scheduling directly.
USPA maintains a list of current Group Member drop zones in the online drop zone directory. Also, skydiving schools are often listed in the local yellow pages under "parachute" or "skydiving." Many regions are served by more than one skydiving center, and a prospective student should shop around. Ask questions (personal observation is even better) about the types of training offered, the type of equipment used, staff qualifications, etc.
