- The company was started in 1919 by Louis A. Freda in New York City. It began as United Engraving, hand engraving brass dies. Pre-WWII, Louis Freda decided to expand the business to printing and started with a single press that was manufactured in Germany in 1918. While still in NYC and after WWII, he sold the engraving division of the company and changed the name to United Seal and Tag Label Corp. His son and grandson, Louis G. Freda and Robert G. Freda, moved from Texas in 1967 to work at the printing company, and shortly thereafter, the company relocated to Oceanside, Long Island.
