This project began around March of 2005. I had made a New Year’s resolution to get our finances in order, and I was having a tough time of it. I couldn’t find a budgeting system that worked for my wife and me, I didn’t know anything about investing, and we had about $16,000 of debt to pay off. I don’t know about you, but for me that was a call to action.
At first, I read every personal finance blog I could find on the Web. I spent hours a day reading about ways to save money, make money, budget, plan for retirement, and live frugally. My wife probably thought I had gone off the deep end. Eventually, it paid off - we’re steadily reducing our debt, we have a budgeting method that is simple and easy to use, we’re saving a very healthy amount of money for retirement, and we live below our means.
