Welcome to the UKIP (Reigate, Epsom and Mole Valley) Homepage!

Description

The Reigate branch of UKIP was formally established in March 1997 to lead the struggle for the restoration of British independence in the area of the Reigate parliamentary constituency and it contested that seat in the General Election in that year. Since 1998, it has also contested local elections as the party is also committed to restoring local government to a fully accountable state and protecting it from domination from both Westminster and Brussels. Accordingly, UKIP contested a ward in Reigate Borough in 1998 , 1999 and 2000, expanding this to 2 wards in 2002, 4 wards in 2003 and 8 wards in 2004.Similarly it contested a division in the last County Council elections in 2001(see elections)

In 2003, UKIP captured its first seat in local government in the borough when Denese Brooke-Harte captured a seat on Horley Town Council. In 2004 , in the 11 wards in which UKIP stood in Reigate borough(3 were contested by the neighbouring East Surrey branch of UKIP) we achieved 3,444 votes, representing 15.89% of the votes cast in those wards , thus finishing in third place in those wards comfortably ahead of the Labour party ( 2,719 votes ; 12.54% )

In 2003, the branch extended its perimeter to the neighbouring Epsom constituency and in 2004 to the neighbouring Mole Valley constituency. Accordingly, in June 2004, UKIP contested the three Ashtead wards in the Mole Valley council elections.
