NotYet It just doesn't look like chalk to me. I like the basic idea very much, but the proposed image doesn't say anything to me. I've never collaborated or written extensively in chalk. Also, the purpose of chalk is that sooner or later it'll be erased -- nobody uses chalk to create a long-term document. A pencil would work better for me. Edit-chalk-10bo12.png edit

Danny, setting aside the actual image, does the chalk metaphor work for you? Do the principles work for you? Does the idea of an image that evolves over time work for you? peace, TedErnst | talk 07:17, 21 October 2007 (PDT) (also sent link here by email)

No, I don't understand the chalk metaphor. A pencil would work better for me. I've never collaborated or written extensively in chalk. Also, the purpose of chalk is that sooner or later it'll be erased -- nobody uses chalk to create a long-term document.
Cool. This is clear. Maybe put this idea in your status message above? This idea that chalk doesn't work as a metaphor feels more clear to me than the idea that the proposed image doesn't say anything, if you see what I mean.
I do like the general idea of having a standard image for this. However, I'm not sure I understand how the image is supposed to "evolve over time", if people are discouraged from altering it. If it's supposed to be consistent wherever it's used, then how can it evolve? Dannyhorn 07:52, 21 October 2007 (PDT)
I don't know. The RSS button has gone through an evolution. I don't know how it works exactly. If we decide that the pencil metaphor is the way to go, for example, then perhaps an evolution could be from a bad representation of a pencil (v0.1) towards a better one for v0.2 or v1.0 or whatever. One theory would say we'll learn much more about the pitfalls and needed directions for evolution when we actually implement something in multiple places. peace, TedErnst | talk 08:40, 21 October 2007 (PDT)
