At the end of the 20th Century California became flooded with 100% electric vehicles. Electric vehicle models included the Ford Ranger EV, the GM EV-1, the Chevy S-10 EV pickup truck, the Nissan Altra-EV and the Toyota RAV4-EV sports utility vehicle.
In the first few years of the 21st Century, all of these electric cars (at that time leased) were crushed in the desert, except a handful of the Toyota RAV4-EVs that were sold to private owners and managed to survive the genocide of electric vehicles.

Year 2003 - “FreedomCAR” (Freedom Cooperative Automotive Research) was created as a public-private partnership between The U.S. Department of Energy, BP America, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Shell Hydrogen, and the United States Council for Automotive Research (USCAR). USCAR was a partnership among Daimler/Chrysler, Ford Motor Company and General Motors.
