M y partner and I have been shippers, we've been truckers, and we've been brokers. Like everyone else, we always did things pretty much as we had learned to do them. One particular day we and our staff were all completely swamped handling paperwork, trying to get broker packets and W-9 forms faxed back and forth, checking loads and making calls. The fax machine was acting up and desks were stacked high with paper needing to be filed. To make things even more hectic, the phones were ringing off the hook. After I had directed a few choice words toward the fax, one of the staff people commented, "What happened to the paperless society we used to hear about? Why hasn't someone been able to convert this process to a paperless system???" I looked at my partner and our jaws dropped.
That night we sat down and outlined a plan for what would eventually be known as TRUCKERSOFT. We added up what it cost to do things the way we were: the cost of load boards, advertising, all that paper and the labor required to handle and file it. We loved our staff, but with a paperless system it could be downsized. After seeing what could be saved compared to what it was costing us, we had to build it. Face it, all those load board companies claiming to offer so many services were really costing us a lot of money. So our idea was to include all their features, PLUS our paperless broker packets (patent pending), for a price that even small companies could afford.
We didn't stop there. We created a database that contains all the information you might like to know about a company but could not find, or it was difficult to access; like number of employees, equipment type and count, terminal locations, even credit history. We wanted you to be able to access any public information with the click of a button. And we weren't going to make you pay more for an added feature, like others do. We know too well that transportation costs are going up. Fuel price is only one aspect. The point here is, we want to help you without charging you an outrageous price. You have enough transportation costs; we want to help lower them. Now, the only question for you is, "Why aren't you signed up?"
