Sue Murphree and her daughter Elizabeth spent many years owning and showing Arabian and Half-Arabian Horses. When a car accident in 1996 ended Elizabeth's riding career, the Jack Russell Terriers already owned by the Murphrees became the heart of Troon Quarry Ranch. Sue and Elizabeth soon obtained the right mix of bitch and dog to launch a successful JRT breeding program. Their success in the show ring rose to new heights in 2002, and they have become a known factor in the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America. Troon Quarry Jet was named 2002 JRTCA US National Open Terrier Champion. Troon Quarry Outlaw was named Reserve Best Open Terrier Dog at JRTCA 2000 US Nationals and the 2002 and 2003 JRTCC Canadian National Reserve Open Terrier Champion. The TQ dogs will attend more than a dozen shows this year.
Although Troon Quarry Ranch breeds Jack Russell Terriers primarily for the show ring and the hunt, it is important that all of our terriers are well socialized so that each terrier fits in with its new family. If a client desires a family pet that will never be shown at a trial, TQ Ranch sets out to fill that bill. Terriers and prospective owners are carefully matched so that the client is assured of getting the "right" JRT. Educating people about the JRT is a main thrust here at TQ Ranch. In fact, Sue and Elizabeth discourage any hint at a family life that will not fit in with a JRT. We believe that the goal of any breeding program is to improve the breed. And for that reason breeding each year is done with that thought in the forefront of our goals. Our goal at Troon Quarry Ranch is to "produce Tomorrow's winners."
