Call me crazy, heck call me a fool. Maybe I don't have too much going on in my seemingly mundane existence to come up with something useful. Yet somehow, I have a rather interesting passion that I desire to share with the world.
About four years ago, I developed a rather fascinating interest in the common road sign and the purpose it serves in helping motorists get around safely and efficiently. Signs serve as a tool in determining where to go, how to get there, what you should look out for, and what you can find along the way. Road signs make the journey manageable; otherwise without them, we'd all be wandering aimlessly without having any idea where we are or what we're even doing.
Being a longtime resident of the Research Triangle area of North Carolina, I've seen so much change take place. This area of the country has experienced change and growth like very few others. So many new people, so many new buildings and roads, even so many new signs. With change, however, comes the cruel fate of conformity that robs a city or town of its image and character in order to look like everyone else. We're constantly swamped by the strip malls and Wal-Marts, cul-de-sacs and "planned neighborhoods", tired radio stations run by mega-corporations that keep playing the same song over and over ad nauseam, no 7-Elevens but plenty of Kwik-E-Marts and other assorted rip-offs. One has to wonder if life here really is that bland and boring. How this area once became "The Best Place To Live in America" is beyond me.
