Additional Information

BIID is a condition in which the individual experiences an obsessive desire for physical impairment, such as amputation of a limb, spinal cord injury, blindness, or other disability. The condition is similar to Gender Identity Disorder (GID), in which the affected individual feels that he or she was born into the wrong body.

Just as the term “transgendered” applies to people with GID, the term “transabled” applies to people with BIID. Transabled individuals may also refer to themselves as wannabes or pretenders.
