TimbeRoof Post and Beam: Timber Framing and Custom Homes
Description
The Post and Beam Method
Our product is created in our climate controlled factory in Waynesboro, VA, by TRPB staff who are specially trained in post and beam construction. Post and beam, and timber framing, are centuries-old methods which combine great flexibility of design with the warm and natural beauty of exposed timbers. Because the method is so adaptable, frames can be built to fit almost any design, be it the client's, one of our own in-house designs or the result of collaboration between the client and TRPB. Once the frames are completed, they can be immediately shipped out to your construction site for quick and easy assembly.
Timber framing differs from stick framing, the most common method used in residential home building today. In stick framing, small pieces of wood are used, insulation is placed between these sticks (or studs), and then covered with drywall or paneling. The craftsmanship of the carpenters and the wood itself is hidden.
In post-and-beam construction, larger pieces of wood (we typically use 6"x8" and 6"x12" timbers) are handcrafted to fit together and are exposed to view. The wood paneling is placed on top of the beams and the insulation wraps the roof, creating a more airtight seal.
