Tiffany Tomato Designs
Description
Why Tiffany? Tiffany Threadgould began designing when she lived in New York City. The garbage that lined the streets at night became the inspiration and material from which her designs evolved. While in New York, Tiffany attended Pratt Institute and received her master's degree in industrial design. She now lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan where the garbage doesn't always line the streets, but is still plentiful enough to go around.
Why Tomato? The Tomato comes from the many summers Tiffany spent selling vegetables at a farmer's market. The vegetables came from her family's garden and the name "grew" from the hundreds of tomato plants her father insisted on planting each year. Plus the tomato has an ecologically conscious design because it eventually returns to the earth. Also, Tiffany had red hair for a while so the name kind of stuck.
Why Designs? Designing is a way to influence people. If a person sees something once considered garbage, but is now a useful object, maybe that person will think before the next time that item is thrown away. Printed media can positively influence the way consumers react and make them think about what they're reading.
