About this site
This blog: I’ve been blogging since 1/01 although not all of my oldest entries are on up on this site. (I was hand-coding back then and have been too lazy to get them all imported.) Back in the headiest days of my blogging career my site was written up in Time Magazine, the Washington Times, About.com’s Parenting section, About.com’s Adoption section, and the Adoptive Families magazine web site. I started the blog because I was inspired by Phoenix Amon’s brave online journaling (her site is gone so I can’t link it) and wanted to try it on for size. It revitalized my writing life and is also a handy record to look up kid milestones, important events and ideas I forgot I had.
My writing life: I’ve been writing for publication since 2002, I think. Maybe 2001. You know what? I have no idea. Anyway I’m a writer and sometimes I get published, which is a nice thing. I write for joy and I write for money and when I’m very lucky, both things happen at the same time.
My family life: I have two kids and a delightfully odd husband, Brett. My children are Noah (born to us in 1997) and Madison (born to her first mom, Jessica, in 2004 and brought to our family through a domestic, open adoption). They are my inspiration and also the reason I don’t get more done around here. Pre-Noah, I had a couple of miscarriages and pre-Madison I had a whole lot of miscarriages. My fertility challenges and our adoption story inspire a lot of my writing.
