- Star Wars: The Eye of Darkness is an independently-produced Star Wars Fan-Film. It is currently in preproduction for the most part, meaning that currently, sets and props are being built, locations scouted and secured, actors signed on, etc. A Star Wars "fan film" refers to a film or video produced independently of, and without any business relation to, George Lucas or Lucasfilm Ltd. Although original film or video is generally shot for these fan films, they usually rely heavily on existing bodies of work within Star Wars, such as the movie soundtracks, as well as often featuring the copyrighted characters and locations within the Star Wars universe. George Lucas has allowed private parties to do this with the understanding that the creations are for fun only and not-for-profit.
Star Wars: The Eye of Darkness is mainly about Mel Savidge and his friend/business partner Trebor, who work as bounty hunters along with the crew of their ship, the Jupiter Sparrow. During the course of the story, they meet and/or conflict with Sith Lords, Jedi Masters and a variety of other characters. Taking place 30 years after the destruction of the Death Star, (from ep. IV, A New Hope), the story outlines how Mel and his entourage become involved in a struggle to prevent the Empire from re-expanding under the tyranny of Admiral Anslinger, an Imperial Officer in command of a remnant Starfleet. The Eye of Darkness refers to a mysterious object crafted in ancient times by the Rakatan, a race of force-sensive beings who could build physical devices to help them harness, focus – and even amplify – their force powers. The story will place some (hopefully) memorable characters right into the classic Star Wars storyline formula of good vs. evil; not only in the forces that play out in the universe, but also in the choices that mankind makes for himself.
